About Us

The inspiration for our business name comes from gem mining and the exquisite Ceylon sapphires.

The business name CEYLUVIAL is formed from two fundamental concepts: the first being the process of gem mining in Sri Lanka, which usually involves extracting gem-bearing gravel from ALLUVIAL deposits, followed by a washing procedure to separate the gemstones from the surrounding sediment; the second concept relates to the root origin of CEYLON Sapphires.

Then we combine the two words CEYLON and ALLUVIAL to form CEYLUVIAL

Our Approach

Our Operations

We procure high-quality sapphire stones directly from miners and offer them at competitive prices, ensuring that all gemstones undergo thorough inspection and certification for quality prior to reaching consumers.

Essential Steps to Accomplish This Objective

  • Collaboration with Mines
  • Identify mines recognized for their ethical mining practices, commitment to environmental responsibility, and excellence in sapphire production.
  • Establish direct connections with miners to foster trust and transparency throughout the sourcing process.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations: Regularly assess mining techniques, labor conditions, and quality control measures at the mines.

Strategies to empower small scale sapphire miners

In the context of sapphire mining, it is a frequent challenge that miners receive lower prices for their output, while middlemen in the supply chain gain a disproportionately larger share.
We contend that this culture must come to an end.

There is a global agreement that the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector is made up of individuals ensnared in a vicious cycle of poverty, including those in Sri Lanka, who lack the essential financial and technological resources to elevate their living conditions. There is a growing acknowledgment that ASM is fundamentally linked to poverty, as participants are driven to mine due to high levels of unemployment.

At CEYLUVIAL , we have devised strategies to empower artisanal and small-scale (ASM) miners to access competitive markets without the involvement of middlemen. To facilitate ASM miners in getting their products to more competitive markets and to lessen their dependence on intermediaries, several crucial strategies can be implemented.

Direct Market Linkages

In order to assist small-scale miners (ASM) in reaching more competitive markets in North America.

Establishing direct links between small miners and North American fine jewelers and designers, including via online platforms, can diminish dependence on intermediaries and enhance transaction transparency

How We Mine

Sri Lanka is renowned as one of the leading producers of natural gemstones globally. The nation is particularly celebrated for its naturally sourced sapphire, beryl, ruby, zircon, topaz, and tourmaline. With an extensive history in gem mining, this activity is among the oldest industries and serves as a significant source of income for the country. Both traditional techniques and modern mechanical methods are employed in gem extraction today. The primary methods utilized for gemstone recovery in Sri Lanka include open pit mining, tunnel mining, and riverbed mining.

Sustainability

Through the implementation of sustainable mining practices, land restoration initiatives, and improved regulatory frameworks, Sri Lanka can maintain its gemstone heritage while safeguarding its environment. Transitioning to eco-friendly mining techniques is essential for protecting the island’s natural beauty and securing a sustainable future for both the gemstone sector and the ecosystem.

Moreover, empowering local communities to oversee mining operations via cooperative models can significantly mitigate environmental impacts. Engaging local populations in the decision-making process and ensuring they reap the benefits from these resources will enhance the motivation for sustainable management.

Heat treated geuda gemstones

Geuda is one of the varieties of corundum gems that is found in Sri Lanka abundantly.Geuda lack colour and clarity compared to other sapphires yet has the potential to convert into quality blue sapphires by heat treatment at high temperatures

Geuda is a LOW-QUALITY FORM OF CORUNDUM, and it is abundant in most GEM-ENRICHED REGIONS IN SRI LANKA. It can be HEAT TREATED to transfer into worthy BLUE SAPPHIRES where the VALUE ALTERS WITH THE DEGREE OF COLOR.

Our Company

CEYLUVIAL is a company based in the US, with origins in Sri Lanka, and we have been involved in the gemstone industry for many years. Initially, we sourced gemstones from small miners, primarily located in rural Sri Lanka. Subsequently, we broadened our reach to include artisanal small miners from various regions of the island. Currently, we source from over 500 small-scale miners throughout Sri Lanka. The real stakeholders of Ceyluvial are the small-scale rural miners. When you purchase a colored stone from us, they receive a fair share for their diligent mining efforts.

Our focus is on the precision of cutting and color matching calibrated sizes, especially in the realm of round brilliant cuts. We supply color-matched pairs of earrings that feature sapphires as well as semi-precious stones. In addition to calibrated stones, we are engaged in faceting different colored stones that are over one carat-
